Butker stated that he had not originally intended to speak at Benedictine College, a private Catholic liberal arts institution located in Atchison, Kansas, on May 11. In May 2023, he gave a commencement speech at Georgia Tech, his alma mater. He stated that he didn’t “want to be known as a commencement speaker.” Butker changed his direction after giving his relationship with the college some thought.
After seven years in the league and with this platform, I feel as though I’ve simply made the decision to preach about certain topics that I really believe would improve the world.
